Are there any pregnant women who learn martial arts for self defense, and protecting their offspring?

Posted on January 27th, 2010 by admin, under women martial arts.

Actually, yes there are. Some women don’t show that much throughout their whole pregnancy. If you have good muscle tone to begin with and a high waist line and carry your baby high, you can keep going until almost the day you are due. I definitely wouldn’t recommend sparring or drills where you learn to fall but the exercise for a healthy woman is also good for the baby.
Moreover these women also tend to teach their children martial arts and/or enroll them in training programs when they are old enough. The family that kicks together sticks together.

What is the best martial art to learn?

Posted on January 27th, 2010 by admin, under best martial art.

What would be the most effective martial art to learn if you want to learn self defence?

I have never done any martial arts before.

For self defence I would say "Hapkido" because it does not require super strength and it is easy to perform and learn it is very effective, because face it we all have joints and when they get twisted it hurts a lot. Karate is also good because of all the blocking and mental strength. And Spetsnaz is very effective and easy to perform although you will pretty much only find it in russia I would say that Hapkido is very good. But the most effective for me would be Krav Maga, it’s a crazy self defence system developed in israel to protect you against anything, Even a handgun! Good luck Hope this Helps!

I bought 2 pairs of 12 oz. training gloves and i need to know something about them right quick!!?

Posted on January 27th, 2010 by admin, under martial arts gloves.

ok on the paper thing on these gloves is has the BEST FOR: Shadow Boxing, Martial Arts & Aerobic Boxing…does this mean that me and my friend cant box with these gloves or not..because i dont want to box and then we end up really hurt..so can someone please tell me really quick and the brand of the gloves are EVERLAST

The 12 oz training gloves sound like the ones I used for aerobic boxing. We punched bags and people with pads on their bodies, or paddle pads. They were never for body to body contact unless you were using punching pads.
By the way, we always wrapped our hands first, then we worked with our hands wrapped for awhile. We sometimes kept the wrapping on and put our gloves over the wrapping and worked the punching bag. When we used pads we took the wrapping off and just used gloves.
So all this to say that I do not think these gloves are for direct contact with another persons body, I think they are too light. The boxers I saw seriously practising wore much thicker gloves.

Man, who’s the most attractive woman at any given moment? The one right in front of you. I like all women. As long she’s over eighteen, mentally and physically competent, and freshly bathed. hahaha

What Would Martial Art Suits Me Best?

Posted on January 23rd, 2010 by admin, under best martial art.

I wanted to know what type of martial art would suit me best. I’m about 5′9” and my weight is roughly 173 lbs. Not incredibly flexible. I have some experience with tae kwon do, but that was several years ago.

Hello !

Finding the right school, style and instructor can be a very discouraging and perplexing endeavor. However, I can suggest the following steps to assist you in your search:

However, First thing first, Ask yourself .

Am I willing to spend the time and money to venture into this “new” lifestyle ? Or Am I just having a Jet Li , Jackie Chan, Power Rangers, The Last Samurai , Randy Couture or BJ Penn moment ? In other words, you had a spur of the moment enlightenment and desire to become a martial artist / Ultimate MMA fighter after watching these guys on TV.

You really need to seriously think about this. Why ? Because training in the martial arts is a hard long and often time a frustrating journey ! It requires patience, guts , determination, perserverance and don’t forget good finance. Sorry, but this is the harsh reality of the facts !

Finally, the million dollar question; What style is good for me ?

There’s a martial arts for everyone. Martial arts does not descrimate on the basis of race, religion, national origin, color, sex, age, veteran status, or disability or age, but it can be a defining factor of the style YOU will choose.

Some martial arts styles may or does depends on your height , weight, build etc…etc.. While I don’t believe in the "one size fits all" mentality. It would be hard to picture a sumotori ( person who trains in Sumo) weighting 400 lbs doing a 360 jump spin triple kick in Taekwondo or vice versa. I am not implying that it is a impossible endeavor, rather its illogical.

My underlying point is that YOU have to find an art that fits YOU. It does not matter which martial art. Just find an art that will make YOU feel comfortable and satisfied.

So let your journey begin with what I have encouraged others in the past to follow. .

1) Get a phone book ( Available FREE from your local phone company ) , Take it home and start looking for the listing under “ Martial Arts Instruction” or “ Martial Arts”. You should find about 2-3 pages of Schools currently doing business in your area. Some schools have big ads that grabs your attention the moment you opened the phone book. Don’t neglect schools that are simply on the basic two lines listing. You will never know what hidden “treasure” you might stumble upon.

Next step is to list the schools and their styles that appeals to you. Since you are new to the martial arts it is also a wise idea to check out a style or system that you have never heard off, as I am sure you have never heard of arts like Matsubayashi Ryu , Kobayashi Ryu, Shito Ryu..etc. List them as well and find out more about them.

Then click on this link: www.google.com type in the styles that you listed. I am 100 percent sure that google will give you detailed information of the type of martial art styles that are being offered in your area.

Do not read one website as the only source of that style. Read as many as you can. It pays to do your homework before you do your legwork.

2) Finding the Dojo

Once you narrowed down your martial arts style search and still feeling enthusiastic about training. Now comes the hard part. To begin with, return to the primary source ( the phone book). Now that you have a clear fundamental understanding of what style of martial arts maybe good for you. List all the available dojo with their address and phone numbers.

Now don’t rely of the phone books alone as the only source of locating dojos in your area. Utilized the power of the information superhighway (AKA the internet). Click on www.Google.com and type in keywords such as Karate ( type in city) or wushu (type in city)..etc

There are dojos that do not advertised or used phone books and the internet to acquire new students. Often these little schools rely of words of mouth or basically are non-commercialized schools.

Just because they are small does not mean that they aren’t any good. Funakoshi’s ( Founder of Shotokan) first dojo was his backyard. Just remember one thing, many great martial artist did not train in a muli-million dollar dojo.

So by now you probably have list that are now 2-3 pages long. The next course of action is to give the Dojo that appealed to you a call and see if they give out try-outs for free or pay the minimal tryout fee’s.

I would strongly suggest to try out these schools for a least a month before you make a commitment. Trying out for one day training session is not enough. If you have to pay for a monthly fee ( Hopefully very small indeed) Just do it ! It is worth the investment.

One last thing, I don’t mean to sound abrasive, but If the above suggestion is too much work for you, then the probability of you being serious in joining a martial arts school is less than zero. I am sorry to say this but, there’s plenty of answerer’s here that wants to sincerely help you in your quest, but you have to do your part.

Need some advice on working out and getting started in MMA (Mixed Martial Arts). Any ideas?

Posted on January 23rd, 2010 by admin, under martial arts gloves.

Here’s a little info…I’m a 6′3" 210lb. 27 year old that has kinda stalled on my workout program…I get so bored running on the elliptical and doing my strength training on the bowflex. I recently purchased an everlast reflex bag and striker gloves (like UFC) to help keep my interest in working out especially in the cold winter months up here in michigan. Now that I’ve been using it for a week, I’m finding out that I really enjoy it. I want to start learning some MMA techniques and moves but I have a weird work schedule and don’t think that a traditional martial arts class is going to fit into my hectic life. Are there any good websites or dvds with training material and workouts? Thanks!!!

Hey, you can do it. Rich Franklin did it via videos of self defense, and he’s still awesome regardless of how he’s doing right now. Every fightyer has his ruts. don’t get me wrong an instructor will help you progress faster.

I would not advise you to go to an MMA gym and would advise you to go take something like boxing and wrestling or boxing and Jujutsu or whatever. Basically be proficient on the ground and on your feet.

Me and my friend for fun spar in BJJ and boxing. I actually took lessons in BJJ and have learned basic boxing and just continue to practice my footwork and punches. I’m 25 years old.

What’s the easiest martial arts throw for a woman?

Posted on January 17th, 2010 by admin, under women martial arts.

I’ve always been intrigued by the ability of a woman to use martial arts to throw a man. What’s the easies or most enjoyable way a woman can throw a man? Whats the size of the biggest man you’ve thrown?

i agree w/a c .. a hip toss is one of the easier throws for me personally. i’m 5′0 126lbs, so i’m not a big person in any way, shape or form.. i have used it during sparring against my husband 5′6 200lbs of muscle, he resists pretty decently and i can still get it really good..

see women as apposed to men hold the bulk of their strength in their lower body, in your legs and hips, where as a man has more upper strength than a woman, what can ya do it’s natures rule…

so martial arts that focus on a lower base are great for women, throwing arts especially because they don’t require extreme strength but leverage, and using you’re opponents energy against them so that in turn they defeat themselves..

as a woman, a man is stronger than you, but he’s not stronger than gravity..

if you are looking for a good throwing art that doesn’t require you to be 6′8 280lbs, try shuai jiao, it’s a great grappling art that includes joint locks, throws, takedowns and other grappling methods, in addition to strikes with hands, feet and other body parts… not to mention the oldest chinese martial art.

Where can I find women’s martial arts gear?

Posted on January 17th, 2010 by admin, under martial arts gloves.

I need some either cheap gloves that will fit my tiny hands that preferably ARE NOT pink or hand wraps made specifically for women with small hands. Its really frustrating. I can’t afford $30+ gloves either.

Thanks!
Amazon women’s martial arts gear is fairly pricey. As is century, they are super expensive compared so most martial arts stores/catalogs, whatever you want to call them.

How about Century Martial Arts or Pro Force? I’m pretty sure they have items that accomodate you.

For women who do martial arts. have you made a guy submit to you? How did you do it?

Posted on January 7th, 2010 by admin, under women martial arts.

triangle choke or just choke out…arm bars and knee bars are too difficult since generally their limbs are much stronger than ours. they choke out faster than women it seems. because of the adam’s apple?
