What is the best martial art for a quick effective takedown on a opponent?
Posted on December 8th, 2009 by admin, under best martial art.
Please do not say Krav Maga because I see that as more streetfighting than a martial art
Also add a video if possible and by effective i don’t mean it looks cool i mean you can take down your opponent and they will stay down quickly
Probably Judo or Sambo. Both of these styles have devestating throws if the person doesn’t know how to fall. Many of their throws are designed to end the fight right there. BJJ has an excellent ground game, but from what I have seen it doesn’t have too many destructive throws that will end a fight. Wrestling has great take downs, but not very many throws that will end a fight, but it does have a few.
Even Okinawan karate has some pretty devestating throws, in fact it has many of the same throws as Judo, they are just not as emphisized as much.
Phoecyn- your level of ignorence continues to amaze me…Muay Thai? Good lord you really need to leave the martial arts section k, cause you are just emberassing yourself.

obviously wrestling. The sport is based around takedowns and speed is an important aspect to a takedown

No style compares to wrestling for takedowns. But you need more than wrestling for a fight, because wrestling ends at the takedown, maybe look into training MMA and learn striking, wrestling, and jiu jitsu to have a well rounded approach.

if you mean takedown (a technique for bringing the fight to the ground), then the best are probably judo, jiu-jitsu, brazilian jiu jitsu, and any other submission wrestling martial art.
if you mean take down (end the fight), then the martial art is not nearly as important as the instructor. you need to find one who specializes in teaching self defense and has had actual real-world experience.

For a good take down you can use a traditional wrestling, double leg takedown or do some judo throws. If you are bigger and stronger than your opponent opt for the wrestling. If you are a little smaller or of equal size get close to your opponent grab him and throw him over one of your legs or trip himand push.
