What is the best martial art to learn?
Posted on January 27th, 2010 by admin, under best martial art.
What would be the most effective martial art to learn if you want to learn self defence?
I have never done any martial arts before.
For self defence I would say "Hapkido" because it does not require super strength and it is easy to perform and learn it is very effective, because face it we all have joints and when they get twisted it hurts a lot. Karate is also good because of all the blocking and mental strength. And Spetsnaz is very effective and easy to perform although you will pretty much only find it in russia I would say that Hapkido is very good. But the most effective for me would be Krav Maga, it’s a crazy self defence system developed in israel to protect you against anything, Even a handgun! Good luck Hope this Helps!

I study BJJ at a serious dojo; did a lot of research before starting, two years ago.
- Muay Thai kickboxing is a very aggressive striking martial art. It would be useful for anyone.
- Jujutsu is a grappling art; probably best for a large person.
- Brazilian Jiu-jitsu is also a grappling art. It’s an offshoot of Jujitsu that focuses more on joint locks. This would be useful for anyone.
You don’t need to learn a martial art to defend yourself, but it can be good for your health (physical and mental). The best way to defend yourself? An aggressive enough preteen could defend him/herself against a grown man with a decent-sized stick. Use weapons, jab in the eyes and target the groin.

Any type of martial arts. If you reach black belt and yes you can also go even further than black belt then you will be more than a match for the average person. There is no "best martial arts to learn" because it depends on the person and their own capabilities. Any form of self defence will greatly help you when in need.
Any experienced martial artist will tell you that speed and strength aspects are worked on after the technique. Martial Arts is for anyone and does not specifically require you to be strong. If you are ever in a fight – speed and technique will matter a lot more than strength will. If you are a woman and a fully grown 6”4 man came at you all it would take is a kick in the groin or a broken nose and he’d be out of it.

jet kune do or hapkido. Both are hybrids and cover the full spectrum of fighting variations and good also for beginners they both give a wide range of developmental fighting technics especially for self-defense since that what these arts were designed for.

hello,
this will depend greatly upon what is available where you are.
start with the police department. they typically offer self defense courses that will at least give you an idea of the types of situations you might face. you can then select a system or systems to build specific skill sets in accordance with your needs.
systems that typically work well for women:
pekiti tirsia kali
sayoc kali
cabales serradas
inayan escrima
presas arnis
serak silat
bukti negara silat
bersilat
these are involve a lot of "dirty fighting" as well as huge weapon components.
jiujitsu
hapkido
sambo
these grappling systems involving joint manipulations. good way to control attackers.
muaythai
bando
these are striking systems that are very aggressive. they are simple and effective.
start with the police and work from there. no doubt you will be able to get some good training. will likely be fun for you too!
thanks
