I bought 2 pairs of 12 oz. training gloves and i need to know something about them right quick!!?
Posted on January 27th, 2010 by admin, under martial arts gloves.
ok on the paper thing on these gloves is has the BEST FOR: Shadow Boxing, Martial Arts & Aerobic Boxing…does this mean that me and my friend cant box with these gloves or not..because i dont want to box and then we end up really hurt..so can someone please tell me really quick and the brand of the gloves are EVERLAST
The 12 oz training gloves sound like the ones I used for aerobic boxing. We punched bags and people with pads on their bodies, or paddle pads. They were never for body to body contact unless you were using punching pads.
By the way, we always wrapped our hands first, then we worked with our hands wrapped for awhile. We sometimes kept the wrapping on and put our gloves over the wrapping and worked the punching bag. When we used pads we took the wrapping off and just used gloves.
So all this to say that I do not think these gloves are for direct contact with another persons body, I think they are too light. The boxers I saw seriously practising wore much thicker gloves.

Need some advice on working out and getting started in MMA (Mixed Martial Arts). Any ideas?
Posted on January 23rd, 2010 by admin, under martial arts gloves.
Here’s a little info…I’m a 6′3" 210lb. 27 year old that has kinda stalled on my workout program…I get so bored running on the elliptical and doing my strength training on the bowflex. I recently purchased an everlast reflex bag and striker gloves (like UFC) to help keep my interest in working out especially in the cold winter months up here in michigan. Now that I’ve been using it for a week, I’m finding out that I really enjoy it. I want to start learning some MMA techniques and moves but I have a weird work schedule and don’t think that a traditional martial arts class is going to fit into my hectic life. Are there any good websites or dvds with training material and workouts? Thanks!!!
Hey, you can do it. Rich Franklin did it via videos of self defense, and he’s still awesome regardless of how he’s doing right now. Every fightyer has his ruts. don’t get me wrong an instructor will help you progress faster.
I would not advise you to go to an MMA gym and would advise you to go take something like boxing and wrestling or boxing and Jujutsu or whatever. Basically be proficient on the ground and on your feet.
Me and my friend for fun spar in BJJ and boxing. I actually took lessons in BJJ and have learned basic boxing and just continue to practice my footwork and punches. I’m 25 years old.

Where can I find women’s martial arts gear?
Posted on January 17th, 2010 by admin, under martial arts gloves.
I need some either cheap gloves that will fit my tiny hands that preferably ARE NOT pink or hand wraps made specifically for women with small hands. Its really frustrating. I can’t afford $30+ gloves either.
Thanks!
Amazon women’s martial arts gear is fairly pricey. As is century, they are super expensive compared so most martial arts stores/catalogs, whatever you want to call them.
How about Century Martial Arts or Pro Force? I’m pretty sure they have items that accomodate you.

Can I cool down my gloves?
Posted on January 4th, 2010 by admin, under martial arts gloves.
What can you do to make boxing gloves not so sweaty and hot? I use them in a martial arts class.
Talcin powder with hand wraps will work. You should be strapping your hands before sparring anyway to reduce the risk of injury to them.

A new Martial Art to learn? Any suggestions?
Posted on January 4th, 2010 by admin, under martial arts gloves.
I have studied both Muay Thai and Krav Maga. I would like to try a new Martial Art, but can’t decide what to try next. I dislike using gloves, although don’t mind using the sort that are used in UFC, or mixed martial arts (MMA). I dislike floor work, such as grappling. Can anyone suggest a new art to try?
Well you would most likely want to do Shaolin Kung Fu and/or Shotokan Karate or Chun Kuk Do Karate or Tae Kwon Do. Shaolin Kung Fu doesn’t use gloves and it doesn’t have much floor work.

To be honest that is pretty cheap for official WTF approved items. Check out the links below as many of them sell gloves like the ones mentioned.

Style I should learn first? I am beginner for Martial Arts or kung Fu?
Posted on December 24th, 2009 by admin, under martial arts gloves.
Ok soo I am 14 I am new… I’ve ask many times and 2 things are Judo and BJJ and Wing Chun… I want to know which is good for me( I am new ) easy to learn no splits ok… Also if you think any other ones are good tell me! I don’t really like MMA since it uses gloves? I was wondering If I DO pick one and learn… About how much would it cost? In CA and How do I know if the teacher or school is good? Also is there even a Wing Chun school in CA?
I’ve said this many times. There is no superior style of martial arts. There are only good or bad instructors in each style. Notice I never recommend a style. It is because although I believe that what I study and teach works very well, I also know that it is not the style that is so effective, it is what I was taught and how. The same thing is true of all traditional styles. A good instructor can be very helpful. A bad instructor will waste your time. Find the best instructor in your area and forget this nonsense about people telling you this style is better than that style. I have nothing against anyone elses opinion here. But when it gets down to it. Most of the answers you are going to get are from people that have very little real training or understanding of what is what here. I’ve spent over 42 years training and teaching martial arts as a profession. Your choice who you want to listen to….

BOXING GLOVES!!!? I have just bought some 12oz Everlast training gloves. ?
Posted on December 18th, 2009 by admin, under martial arts gloves.
On the package the gloves say that they are made for martial arts, aerobic or shadow boxing. They dont seem to have too much padding. I will be using the gloves to box with not in a league or anything but around the neighborhood. We will be having full out matches and i was wondering if i should get the everlast amateur boxing gloves. Please let me know quickly so i know if i should return them. Also if u have any other reccomendations please let me know.
Take them back and exchange them for regular 16 oz Boxing gloves. That is if u intend to ‘Box’ not do a homemade MMA. The gloves u have now will rip a hole in someone’s face. If u can, get a pair of Reyes or all leather Everlast gloves. The vinyl gloves most sporting goods stores sell are garbage that explode when u hit someone and padding flys everywhere. Hope this helps.

Is it legal to have an MMA (mixed martial arts) tournament in a public park?
Posted on December 15th, 2009 by admin, under martial arts gloves.
So, i have gloves. Experience. As do my friends, and we have sparred for far to long. Time to actually do some damage >:}
So i was wondering, would it be legal to have an MMA tournament in a public park? We have all the protective gear, and know what we are doing. Plus, it’s not like we’re letting anyone join in, you have to be invited.
So is that legal, or do you have to have the park owners permission?
Okay, so don’t comment on the safety issue. We do UFC all the time, we know what were getting ourselves into. I’ve broken my ankle, fractured my writst, and take several low blows in my time. Just anser the question please.
You would probably have to rent the area for such an event. Contact the city hall who owns the park and ask.
