is there a way to learn MMA (mixed martial arts) from home?
Posted on December 13th, 2009 by admin, under martial arts gloves.
I want to be able to learn MMA without going to a gym.. is thee a possibility to learn it for free? (i do have a boxing bag and gloves already).. so yeah any help is much appreciated ![]()
And i’m not trying to start trouble i’m only finding a way to defend myself cause i’ve never been able too
And stop with the bad answers cause i was just asking and i’m new to this yahooanswers thing… i didn’t say anything bad bout you’s so don’t say anything back unless you have a good reason to
Hello Robbie!
Try to learn with a friend, that’s the most effective way if you are going to do things on your own, because you need live sparring and techniques to try on him or her.
Hope I helped!
Edit: Jay, get over yourself.

Am I more open minded towards Martial arts? or Just Bi ast?
Posted on December 10th, 2009 by admin, under martial arts gloves.
Ok,so I was a Hard core Stand up guy, think one hit, sprawls and all that would keep you from getting taken down. Well My friend Brandon told me about BJJ,and how cool it was,and the owner was trained By Royce Gracie,so I went in,and I told them Yes I have had experience, well David (Instructor for that day who’s a brown belt) asked if He could use an example out of me,so I put on MMA Gloves, and he did as well, well He set me up and went for a shoot, and he stayed so tight to me,I could do anything,he stayed low and heavy on me,and was very fast with his transfers,He made me feel like an idiot lol,so anyways I had gotten into a Triangle from Mount, could do crap, then got one when I was in his guard and punching in it,he got one,I figured,Oh slam him and postured up…Nope.. so Now Im thinking a good 99.99999% of you guys really dont understand how hard it is to get out of these submissions,so I bought my Gi,and joined haha. There great guys. So does this meen I am more open minded?
Oh By the way,I did Boxing, and Kickboxing.
I meen I couldnt do anything..not could
Actually not at all,I knew this is how you people would react,People sit here on there asses as.ses all day and think of myths, and things you do that seems like it would work on paper, but Its a whole different world out there.
As tue as that is,In the street, its not limited to Just striking,so I think Grapling is better for the street, because you are not forced to stand and Bang, but you can be easily forced to fall onto the ground, and get somthing broken and choked out.
no i think youre more open minded now i see this all the time where i train stand up guys come in and get taken down and submitted even by white belts you are not alone keep on training

Which would be better for sparring in martial arts?
Posted on December 8th, 2009 by admin, under martial arts gloves.
Hey guys. I want to know if anyone has the Century P2 sparring gear and which glove is better?
Here are the links:
P2 Articulated Finger Glove:
http://www.centurymartialarts.com/sparring_gear/P2_Sparring_Gear/P2_Articulated_Finger_Glove.aspx
P2 Glove (regular):
http://www.centurymartialarts.com/sparring_gear/P2_Sparring_Gear/P2_Gloves.aspx
I also heard the sparring gear from Macho was good as well. Anyone have the Warrior set?
The link:
http://www.macho.com/category.aspx?id=10000197
Thanks for the help.
There is hardly no difference at all I prefer the p2 because its alittle cheaper. I also use the articulated fingures but only for the Hapkido class because of all the grabbing, They are all going to wear out quick and tear up the sides if you spar very much so go with whats cheapest.

on standards how much would it cost me to buy a heavy punching bag, two sets of gloves, a speed bag +?
Posted on December 6th, 2009 by admin, under martial arts gloves.
anything else need to train for mixed martial arts?
Filled bags run about $1 per pound, so a 200 pound banana bag will run about $200. For MMA you need the banana bag. Figure $50 for 2 pair of gloves at Big 5 sports, and another $50 for a speed bag with platform.
That’s around $300 to start. Since you want two pair of gloves, I take it you have a partner. In that case, you should invest another $100 to get some good focus mitts, or even Muay Thai kicking pads if you can. I made a great pair out of carpet padding, duct tape, and old karate belts. They are awesome for training! If you go home made, take the money you save and buy Bas Rutten’s MMA workout CDs.
You can go cheap in a lot of ways in your training, but get top quality gloves and heavy bag! I have a pair of gloves so old the palms are torn out and there are holes in the thumbs, but the part that counts is still 100%.
You and your partner will soon be on your way!

Which MMA gloves are right for me to spar with?
Posted on December 3rd, 2009 by admin, under martial arts gloves.
I only have a 30-40 dollar budget to buy some sparring gloves.
I’ve found 2 gloves.
UFC Training Gloves.
http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00614734000P?vName=Fitness+%26+Sports&cName=Boxing+%26+Mixed+Martial+Arts&sName=Gloves
I didn’t think they were for sparring but i read in another description that they can be used for it. And i thought it would be a double whammy since its also training gloves
Or Everlast MMA Sparring gloves. (doesn’t say in link, but it says on actual product bag)
http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00614771000P
It throws me off that they look like boxing gloves and they would suck to grapple with. But then again, the more cushion on the glove the better. I don’t wanna get into really intense stuff and really hurt and mark up some of my friends.
I’m looking for a glove to spar and not compete with. For a moderate amount of sparring and striking and not really intense brawling.
Which gloves should i get, or should i get neither and go with another glove to spar with.
Definitely the everlast. Those are the right gloves to spar with. MMA sparring gloves. The exact one. All sparring gloves have to have a requirement of 16 oz and well the everlast has it. The UFC training gloves ARE NOT SPARRING GLOVES. Those are not even legal for sparring and are only legal in UFC actually.

martial arts facing opponent way better than you?
Posted on December 1st, 2009 by admin, under martial arts gloves.
like i fought my friend today for like 5 minutes he hit me in the face with 16 ounch gloves like 50 times, hes to fast i ***** even hit him once,
i almost cryed after the fight well he did hit me in nose,
if i keep doin this will anything good come of it
hes been doin mma for 5 years thats why, IM JUST WONDERING IF I KEEP FIGHTING will i get any better against him? will i imrpove at all, because hes 5 inches taller so i need to punch upwards kinda and his reach is alot better than mine
whenever you practice/play anything against some one better than you you will eventually improve….kinda like when you beat your friend at basketball after all the times he dominated you. you will pick up little tricks, you will compensate for punching up easier and probably will not realize it at first.

MIXED MARTIAL ARTS Products?
Posted on November 26th, 2009 by admin, under martial arts gloves.
What are the best to least products in the MMA world.
Which brands are the best in:
Gloves.
Shorts.
Shirts.
i want to know about the MMA products as much as possible
from people who have knowledge in them.
I am training in Brazilian jujitsu, Muay Thai
what should i go for,
which ones are the expensive ones,
which are cheaper, but still good quality.
Gloves- Fairtex and Combat Sports are what I prefer. Both very durable products with lots of comfort. Prices can range from as low as maybe $25-$70 but I wouldn’t worry about price when it comes to your gloves. You need something that will last and feel good. Do yourself a favor and pay the extra money.
For boxing gloves I’d go with Windy or Hayabusa but you could get away with a $30 pair of everlast
Shorts- Best three would be Sprawl, Clinch gear and Inspirit.
Sprawls are a very loose short. More extra room then most shorts but are still a great short. Fairly light weight, stretch very well. $45-60
Clinch Gear- A much smaller short. All mine come above my knee as where the other two I mentioned go below. These are extremely light weight and when grappling you would think your not even wearing shorts. Another great brand to buy. $45-60
Inspirit- Very much like sprawl but a much thinner material and might just be my favorite shorts. $70 including shipping from japan
I highly recommend the shorts I just mentioned but if you want some cheap quality shorts just go with truth, they only cost about $30.
For shirts if you are just talking rash guards any under armour will do. MMA tees just go to the sites below or google it.
EDIT: Don’t go cheap with mma products. Its not worth it and you will regret it.

Help me find some good 16oz sparring gloves.?
Posted on November 18th, 2009 by admin, under martial arts gloves.
I have a cheap pair of century 16oz slip-on boxing gloves and I want to upgrade to some good gloves. There aren’t any boxing or martial arts stores near where I live and all the gloves I see at sports chalet, sports autority, and big 5 only have the so-called advanced training gloves that have absolutely no padding, so i’m planning on ordering some gloves online and was just hoping that some of you guys could give me some advice on which gloves would be good to get. Thanks!
Out of all the brands available for a low or average price, I only trust Ringside. It’s the highest-end glove on the average affordability scale. It’s just amazing that such a good company contracts their only option of shipping through the shittiest and most corrupt shipping company in the world- UPS. If you live in Alaska (like I do) or Hawaii, you will pay a minimum of $43 for shipping, even if your order a key chain or shirt. On top of that, your order will always take two weeks to reach you rather than the guaranteed two days, but that’s fine because after Ringside and UPS deny you a refund for it (by not replying to your emails), you just call your credit card company and have the insane shipping charge reversed. But all that is if you live in Alaska or Hawaii.
Other than Ringside, if you’re willing to shell out big money for top notch gloves that will last quite a while and that will remain intact and will serve you like gloves should, get Cleto Reyes or Grant. It’s what all the professionals use. The only thing you should buy from Grant is their "Professional" line of gloves, not the other glove models. Other than the Professional gloves, you should order nothing from Grant other than maybe their boxing trunks. A lot of Grant products are overpriced trash (their $30 neck strengthener can be found elsewhere for $9 easily). The problem is that Grant is another American company (they only really care about making money), so they don’t store or ship their products with any care of preservation of product quality, so roughly half of your items will be as if they got sat on by an elephant upon opening the box.
That just leaves Cleto Reyes as the other high-end brand to get. I’ve never personally tried them myself, but I know they’re held in extremely high regard among the boxing group in general. Most of the pros use Cleto Reyes as their brand, their especially used by people who punch hard because the padding in the Cleto Reyes gloves are distributed throughout the glove and not just on the knuckle area, meaning it makes your opponent feel one hell of a punch from you.
So essentially:
3.) Rindside
2.) Grant
1.) Cleto Reyes
But remember, if you want jacked up product and shipping costs, as well as customer service incompetence and complete corruption and rip-off tactics, by all means order from Everlast or Title. Their business is selling cheap (and often previously used), half-broken, Chinese-made products at 5x their value, while shipping it at additional unreasonable rates, while being governed or oversaught by no one with any moral or ethical values towards keeping the company name at what it once was. Some will say that only their lower-end stuff is garbage, but it’s the same with a majority their higher-end stuff as well, trust me. Funniest of all, you’ll order an item when it’s on sale and they’ll confirm that the item in question is indeed on sale, but they’ll secretly bill you for the standard item price and other sneaky little corporate bullshit like that. It’s sad, really. So remember Everlast and Title as a total no-no.

what would you be willing to pay for used martial arts sports equipment from a consignment shop?
Posted on November 15th, 2009 by admin, under martial arts gloves.
reversible chest guard
head gear
hand gear
shin guard
foot guard
standing kick bags
focus target kick gloves
There have been many places that tried this, even on the internet. Play it Again Sports went bankrupt in two years and most of the places around us that offer it refuse martial arts gear because of the risk of infections and viruses from other people.
There is a lot of equipment on ebay right now, most of it ATA stuff, that is used and they still want big bucks for it on there…we actually sell new equipment to our students at pretty close to wholesale which seems to always be cheaper than used gear. There are many dojo around us that do this as well.
