Posted on September 25th, 2009 by admin, under tae kwon do equipment.

I am male, age 14, standing 5′9 tall, and weight about 225 pounds
I want to loose a LOT of fat and tone up my muscles
I dont have any equipment or machinery except for 5-25lb dumbells

Here is the diet plan that I have thought to set:

1/4 cup of pancake mix
9 oz bottled water

Snack:
1/2 Grapefruit

Lunch:
Fist-sized bowl of mixed brown/white rice with 4 ounces grilled salmon with a touch of lemon, parsley, and onions plus fresh sliced cucumbers

Snack:
Fruits, or salad with fish or chicken

Dinner:
Steamed/Baked 4 ounces fish or chicken with broccoli and tofu with 1 Fist-sized bowl of Mixed Rice

Midevening Snack:
1 Fruit (apple ..etc..)

Exercise Routine I plan to follow:

Crunches: 2 sets of 75 crunches daily
Pushups: 2 sets of 20 pushups daily
Tae Kwon Do exercises: 15-30 mins 4-6 days a week
Walking: 1-2 hours a day at 3 mph 5-7 times a week
Weight Lifting: 2-3 sets of 20 pumps ea arm (10 lb) 3-5 times a week
I will try to put my highest efforts to try to reach my goal of 130-170 lbs (55-95 pounds) win less than 3-4 months

Please help give tips of how this routine can improve and your thoughts about it

I will try to do what ever it takes to accomplish this goal, no matter how Intense the workout or the Pressure of food temptation

However, I also want to know if the exercises are TOO intense for a 14 year old Male Teen and if it may affect my growth

Thank you for your time! :]

Well your excercise plan is realistic but your food plan isn’t. You have to be realistic about your diet because if you dont you will want to quit soon. So eat 5 small meals a day. Don’t be specific. You can eat like a fruit salad for breakfast and some orange juice. It gives you energy, vitamins, minerals, and it boost your metabalism too! REMEMBER to eat the most in the morning because when you wake up is when your metabalism is high and if you eat then you wont want to eat later in the day, which gives you more chances of burning alot of calories when you excercise. Also remember that sometimes your thirst senses get in the way of your hunger senses. Meaning, if you seem to be hungry, grab a water and see if you dont feel hungry anymore. If you aren’t satisfied with that and you still feel hungry its time to eat something. I am 14 also and I want to lose some weight. 45 pounds to be exact. I want to do that by August. I relized that if I go on a very strict and specific diet then it wont last. Meaning I will do my diet for like 2 or 3 weeks then I wont want to do it anymore. Lots of people do that so if you quit once…dont worry about it. Start over again. You can do it! Good Luck and I hope you lose the weight you want to.

Hope I Helped!
♥ Haley ♥

(Dont eat after 7:30 because if you do, then you will be sitting on what you eat. Meaning, you probably wont be going any where, or doing anything, you will just go to bed at like 9 or whatever. And the food that you eat will settle in and be stored as fat. So dont eat after 7:30. That was tuff for me because I usually get a Starbuck’s Coffee 3 times a week and now I can only have 1 every 2-3 weeks. Depending on if I did good that week. That’s another thing…..Treat yourself every once in a while. Like every other week, treat yourself to a chocolate chip cookie or something like that so you can feel good about yourself knowing you are working hard. So enjoy that cookie! Make sure you dont eat it after 7:30 though…only eat it in like the afternoon because then you have the chance of working it off.)

Is karate classes for a child costly?

Posted on September 23rd, 2009 by admin, under tae kwon do equipment.

I am thinking of entering my 9 year old son into karate or tae kwon do classes. I was just wondering how expensive it is before I take the leap. Are the uniforms expensive? What about equipment or safety gear? I heard it costs for the level tests and how much are we talking. I don’t want to get myself into something that is going to burn a hole in my pockets. If it is going to require a lot of money then I will look at other options.

it would depend on where u live and what school ur son will be going to, how many times a week he will be going, and other factors (like travel time, and weird school fees), the gi/or whatever uniform ur kid will be wearing is gona be usually from $40-$100(max), if u get a price form the school for more then $60 for a kids uniform be cautious something is not right…

safety gear for competition will depend on what ur buying but it shouldn’t total more then $150 and it will probably last a couple years, the monthely bill could be any where from $60-$150, that will depend on the school u sign up for and how many times a week he will be going, some schools do charge for belt testing, some have it weaved into there monthly bill and only charge for black belt test, the best thing is just to ask at ur individual school,

there may also be random fees that the school will charge like for "accounting" , "a small $250 one time fee for our booking needs" i have been to several schools that charge anyone new who wants to take classes some sort of fee bc most schools dont do there own bill collection instead they have another company do it for them, I would highly recommended u refuse to pay any school that makes such a gimic and instead just walk away bc it most likely u have walked into a McDojo ( a place consumed with making profit then with teaching martial arts) , most schools do wave that fee when they see they might loss ur membership but its not for certain

just for ur refernace on how much u should pay… i am 18 and i have been going to my current school for about a year, i used to pay $115 for 2 classes a week, now i pay $150 monthly for unlimited classes which ( i go to about 9-10 classes ( 1 hour aprox.) a week) , my safety gear was about $300= light and heavy shin pads, head gear mouth guard, gloves, chest pad, and training gi, mma gloves,

ur cost will vary but its not gona be cheap best thing to do is go to some local schools and find out in person how much

best of luck

How do I get the best appraisal for things that I possess and what is the best means of selling them?

Posted on September 21st, 2009 by admin, under tae kwon do equipment.

I know ya’ll are going to say that it depends what I want to sell. I want to sell some beanie babies (both TY and other brands and I have some packaged tinie beanies from when McDonald’s sold them) , maybe some pairs of shoes, clothes, books (children’s, adult, young adult, school textbooks), maybe my DELL computer keyboard (model # RT7D40) because I was going to get a new one, my gold cross necklace and other necklaces (a choker necklace and a shark tooth necklace that my dad got me from Costa Rica), Magic the Gathering cards, Pogs and slammers ( I have some bad ass slammers) from the 90s, magazines, sports cards, some tae kwon doe equipment (like sparring gear), maybe some music CDs, an old SONY boombox (from the 90s or 80s) type stereo with speakers but the wires that hook up to the speakers broke, an APEX DVD player, some marbles and a Yoda hand doll (the type of doll that you put your hand through to make the mouth or head move), a SONY Discman CD player that doesn’t work (don’t know why, it’s about 9 years old or so), a CPS instruction clicker for school, a James Avery silver ring with a cross in it, some old computer games, and some school and honor society pins that you put on your shirt, maybe some old pairs of prescription glasses and a pair of prescription recreational glasses, and I think I have some old toys that i used to play with as a kid. I actually have some Z bots. How much are those worth? I have an old duncan yo yo but the string is kinda old and worn. I guess the last thing is an old Jansport school backpack.

About how much do ya’ll think I could get for each of these items or for the whole lot?

And where should I sell this stuff to get the most money? Ebay? Craigslist? Garage Sale? I would be willing to hear other options in addition to these three that I just said.

no dude. you will not get better answer than what u already know except to add pawnshop to list of possible customers.

but re appraisal, in my yard sale experience, it sounds mostly without economical value except Possibly the few items that have special interest to collectors.

item of high value this year is probably tobacco plants if u look to have one time sale.

Starting and running a succesful Martial Arts Studio?

Posted on September 19th, 2009 by admin, under tae kwon do equipment.

Hello, I am a blackbelt in Tae kwon do, and have been practicing martial arts for 10 years now. I am 21 years old, and I want to open up my own martial arts school. I want to teach a Tae Kwon Do class for children, and have other instructors teach martial arts that they specialize in while renting out the school for the hour that they use.

I have purchased equipment for sparring, and practice, and have about 5 students that I currently teach in a place in which I rent time for in another school.

I am very interested in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Judo, so I will be also wanting to purchase good martial arts or grappling mats.

Any Ideas on how to successfully start and run a good Dojo?

Let me strongly recommend that you talk to a business counselor before you do anything especially spend money. I’d call the local office of SCORE (go to http://www.score.org and input your zip code to find the chapter nearest you), the advice is FREE.

The counselor at SCORE will most likely advise you to write a business plan which is very good advice because it will force you to dig out all of the start up details and the costs of starting a good Dojo and force you to also understand all of the aspects of this business including the customers you’ll concentrate on (your market ) and how you’ll go after them.

You’ll need to register the business with your state controller’s office and make sure that you have any city and county licenses if any are needed where you live. All of this will come out in a business plan.

Try this link :

Good Luck

What’s a good weight and brand for a heavy bag for a martial artist?

Posted on September 17th, 2009 by admin, under tae kwon do equipment.

When I was growing up and learning tae kwon do, I always just used my dad’s gym. Now that I’ve moved out of my hometown, I need some equipment; most immediately, I need a heavy bag.

I had originally wanted a 50-lb bag since that’s what I trained on, but I have lots of room and high ceilings, plus I tend to give the bag a lot of swing when I kick, so I wonder if a 100-lb bag might be preferable.

What’s your opinion?
Great answers so far, thanks– and Stand, my dad trained me on canvas as well, with sand packed in the bottom. You’re right, it teaches you to have great aim, cuz if you don’t, you’re gonna bleed. My hands looked kinda funky for a few months, but it got me used to the idea that if I actually hit someone bare-knuckled, it wouldn’t be a real pleasant experience.

we had a canvas everlast bag that could have been a bayonet dummy for soldiers. it was rough, so you would know immediately if your aim was off. it was also good for getting rid of students with no warrior spirit.

How much does martial arts training cost?

Posted on September 15th, 2009 by admin, under tae kwon do equipment.

Specifically for a Tae Kwon Do school. How much is the tuition? Also, how much is the equipment?

The classes vary from class to class or even discipline to discipline, especially if they are part of a club or organization which most of the fees go to the head of the organization and their top "administrative" people.

the main thing you gotta watch out for is contracts that rope you in for 6 months or more, because those’re usually good indications thjat the school will not really teach you the true mechanics of Martial Arts, but rather be a "belt factory" and try to sell you your belts instead of actually earning them by training.

as far as training gear goes, uniforms vary by the "weight" meaning how heavy the material is: a lightweight (4oz fabric material) is prob’ly about $30.00 depending on the website (like awma.com or centuryma.com) and they”l usually increase by $5.00 to $10.00 increments by the weight usually 6oz, 8oz, 10oz, and often heaviest 12oz or 14oz (again depending on the wbsite), but you can usually get a uniform through the school from the beginning, that’ll prob’ly have the schools logos and patches emboridered on it already.

Sparring gear also will be needed by the time your as early as a yellow or orange belt, but you can often figure on an average of about $150.00 (or a little more) for a full set of gear: head gear, mouth piece to protect your jaw, hand protection, shin and foot protection, and a chest guard if the school allows it, and you’ll also want an athletic protecter (cup) for protecting your groin because there’s nothin worse than a stray kick to the groin.

How can I get a 6-pack in less than 2 months without any equipment?

Posted on August 28th, 2009 by admin, under tae kwon do equipment.

Okay. Well I’m 16, my height is 5′7" and I weight 145 pounds. I take Tae Kwon Do classes and I look OK but I want to have muscles… I mean like a really nice 6-pack and other muscles. I have a summer vocation right now so I’m thinking of sparing the time for it. I know I could just go sign up for a fitness, but I don’t think I have to. Well, I’d like to do it the "natural" way, so I’d work with my body.
Any advise or suggestion? I wanna be fit really. If you give me a great advise with possibly step-by-step specifics, I might choose your answer as the best and seriously THANK YOU!!!
